HER STORY

From the Garden to the Canvas

I began painting later in life, during a season when I needed to free my mind from IRS code and let it fly on it's own path.  What started as a quiet way to find my own thoughts and ideas free of mind-boggling structure, became a practice of looking at the beauty surrounding me.  Looking and loving the wildlife, flowers, and sky in my yard and surroundings.

As a second generation Florida native, I have always felt deeply connected to the land, sky, water, and wildlife.  The scrub jays, the seaside goldenrod, the shells in the sand, the sunrises and sunsets, the big fat black and yellow bumble bee...  They are not just insects or scenery to me; they are part of me.  I depend on them for happiness and they depend on me to be a good caretaker.

Through my art I hope to honor the land that raised me and our interconnection.

The Philosophy

Art is Freedom

I believe that art is a gift.  You can paint the owl purple or make the conch bigger than the  alligator.  If you want it exact, buy a photograph.  Art is freedom.  Freedom is life.
